Olympic Colour 2026 – Painting Competition

The International Olympic Day 2026 celebrations in Kottayam commenced with Olympic Colour 2026, a district level painting competition organised by the Kottayam District Olympic Association in association with Darshana Cultural Centre on 13th June 2026.
Recognising that art has the power to inspire young minds, the Association designed the programme as an inclusive family oriented event by extending participation not only to school students but also to their parents. The programme transformed the venue into a vibrant celebration of creativity, sportsmanship and community participation, marking a memorable beginning to the district's International Olympic Day celebrations. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of approximately 400 children and 500 parents, making it one of the largest Olympic themed art competitions conducted in the district.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Shri. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, whose presence added significance to the opening ceremony.

Mini Olympic Fun Run

Mini Olympic Fun Run The Mini Olympic Fun Run was organized on 20th June 2026 to spread the message of physical fitness, healthy living and Olympic values among young people. The run was flagged off by Sri. S. A. Madhu, International Volleyball Player, in the presence of the Municipal Chairperson, representatives of the Kottayam District Olympic Association, sports personalities, public representatives and invited guests.

The Mini Olympic Fun Run commenced from T.K. Madhava Round and concluded at Vaikom Satyagraha Smarakam. The programme witnessed the participation of more than 500 students, along with Student Police Cadets (SPC), Scouts and Guides, Sports Clubs, Youth Organisations, Harithasena Volunteers, Teachers and Members of the public.

The Mini Olympic Fun Run successfully promoted the Olympic ideals of Excellence, Friendship and Respect while encouraging people of all age groups to embrace regular physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

Anti-Drug Awareness Programme

Following the Mini Olympic Fun Run, a series of public awareness programmes were conducted at Vaikom Satyagraha Smarakam. An Anti-Drug Awareness Programme was led by Shri M. Jayaraj, Assistant Excise Inspector, who highlighted the harmful effects of substance abuse and emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle through sports. The awareness session encouraged students and young people to remain drug-free and to uphold the values of responsible citizenship.

Health Awareness & CPR Demonstration

Recognising the importance of public health and emergency preparedness, the Kottayam District Olympic Association organized a Health Awareness Programme featuring demonstrations on First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

The training session was conducted by Doctors from Vaikom Government Hospital, who demonstrated essential life-saving techniques and explained the correct procedures for responding during medical emergencies. Live demonstrations enabled students and volunteers to understand the correct CPR procedures and encouraged them to acquire life saving skills that could benefit society during emergencies.

The programme enhanced public awareness regarding emergency medical response and empowered participants with essential knowledge that could save lives during critical situations.
As part of the celebrations, a traditional Ottamthullal performance was organized to communicate important social messages through Kerala's rich cultural heritage.

Olympic Forest Initiative

One of the most significant highlights of the Kottayam celebrations was the launch of the Olympic Forest Initiative at Vaikom Satyagraha Smarakam on 20th June 2026.

The ceremonial tree plantation was inaugurated by Sri. K. Sajeev, DySP, Vaikom, symbolically marking the beginning of the Olympic Forest project. As part of the initiative, a ceremonial a sapling was planted to promote environmental conservation while expressing support for India's aspiration to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

Students, volunteers and officials actively participated in the tree plantation, reaffirming their commitment towards protecting nature and creating a greener future.

Olympic Day Run

The Olympic Run 2026, conducted on 23rd June 2026, marked the grand culmination of the International Olympic Day celebrations organized by the Kottayam District Olympic Association.

The Olympic Run commenced with a formal inaugural ceremony held at Nehru Stadium, Kottayam. The programme was officially inaugurated by Shri. Chandy Oommen, MLA, who appreciated the efforts of the Kottayam District Olympic Association in organising a meaningful celebration of International Olympic Day

The Olympic Run was flagged off by Shri. Chetan Kumar Meena, IAS, District Collector, Kottayam, who conveyed his best wishes to all participants and emphasised the importance of regular physical activity in building a healthy society.
